Ricky Ponting Steps down as Australia Captain
Tuesday, March 29, 2011
Ricky Ponting resigns as Captain for both ODI and Test Cricket formats. Thinking 2 days long, after world cup debacle, Ricky decided to quit as captain but want to continue in the team as batsman.
Though he said, no one tapped on his shoulder to resign and its own decision, one can expect how much pressure he might have faced from Australian former players, media and of-course Cricket Australia.
He said, he will be available for next season, leaving decision to selectors to select him or not. He wants to give more time to new captain, taking over his position, to get more experience before facing big tournaments and hence quitting now.
All the best for your future, Ricky. You did a fantastic job as a Captain so far, leaving recent Ashes and World Cup results apart!
On the other side, Shaun Tait also resigned from one day cricket after world cup loss. He wants to continue in T20 shorter form of game.
