Custom Ringtone for iPhone

Monday, March 14, 2011

By default, iPhone doesn't have a feature to set your custom song as Ringtone.
With few simple steps, you can turn your favorite song as your ring tone in your iPhone.

  1. Choose your favorite song from iTunes. Note: It should be a Non DRM file.
  2. Play the song and find the part of it to make as ring tone. Make sure the ring tone length is less than or equal to 30 seconds.
  3. Right click on the song in iTunes and select "Get Info".
  4. Go to "Options" and enter your "Start Time" and "End Time" and click "Ok".
  5. Right click on the song again and select "Create AAC Version". It creates a new file in the same folder of the song with .m4a as the extension.
  6. Right click on the new clip that got added next to your original song in iTunes and select "Delete". When prompt, select "Keep File". It deletes that clip from iTunes but keep that file in your PC.
  7. Now find the .m4a file created in the same folder of your original song and change its extension from .m4a to .m4r
  8. Double click after renaming to play the clip. It automatically adds to your iTunes under Ringtones section.
  9. Sync your iPhone with your iTunes.
  10. Last Step: In your iPhone, go to Settings -> Sounds -> Ringtone. You will find your custom ring tone there. Select it and ENJOY!!!
