Sangakkara Steps Down as Captain
Tuesday, April 5, 2011
Kumar Sangakkara played his last ODI as Captain in World cup final. He stepped down as ODI and T20 captain and offered to continue as Interim test captain, if Sri Lanka cricket board wants him. By continuing as Interim captain, he can do transition to his successor.
He took this decision because he is not sure whether he will play next world cup as he turns 37 then. He wants to give enough time to his successor to prepare for the next world cup. He assured his full support to the new captain to settle in the leadership role.
He will continue as a player in all formats of the game.
